The alarm clock rings, first a faint irritation, then an insistent call to you to get up, get out and get running! Your nose pokes out of the bed covers, your eyes slowly open. The light looks different. The usual morning sounds are muffled. With a groan you realize that it snowed overnight. It's going to be soooo coooold out there! No excuses, My Remote Coh insists on regular routines. Rember, you have to report in, and no little fibs are allowed! So this is how you learn to love cold weather running. First of all, you have to aept that if you want to hieve your personal goals, you have to make so srifices. This isn't the old you that made excuses to avoid getting the exercise and training that your body needs; this is the new, motivated you, soon to be as fit and fast as your heart desires. But that doesn't make the cold winds stop blowing, or the ice lt. You just have to get out of bed. A mighty effort of will, and you'll throw off the covers and leap into tion. A good tip is to have your running clothes ready in a convenient ple, so that you can more or less sleep walk into putting them on. And about those clothes. It's cold, so you need layers. When I run in the winter, I assemble a collection of scarves, sweaters, hats, gloves and jogging pants from the Goodwill (I'll explain why the Goodwill in a minute). My basic winter running outfit includes running tights, a long sleeved cotton t-irt, running orts worn over the tights, a wool beanie, and woolen gloves. Over this I wear a ort sleeved cotton t-irt, a hoodie, and jogging pants. If it's really cold I might even wear a couple of ort sleeved irts. And because it's going to be slippery underfoot, I wear running oes with a good thick textured sole. I buy these a half size bigger than I usually wear, to modate thicker socks. So once garbed for the cold weather, (minus the final outer layers though) I do the My Remote Coh tivation program, to wake up my muscles. This is especially important on cold days, when the body automatically tenses against the cold. But no lingering! Do what Coh tells you, and no more than that. Put on the outer layers, march to the door and plunge into the outside world. In reality, once you get going, those fre cold mornings are great. I especially love to run in frely fallen snow, provided it's not too deep. The Goodwill part. As you run, you'll warm up quickly. I'm lucky in to live in a quiet ple, so I simply discard items of clothing as I go, leaving them tucked under a bu or by a field gate. Then later I go pick it up - but it doesn't matter if soone else gets there first. My n.
